Welcome to the website of Halbe Hageman

painter of landscapes and female elements.

The Groninger land

Through the years, Halbe has made himself familiar with all the aspects of painting and as a self-thaught man, he does not feel himself bothered by all kinds of rules.

His motivator was Arie Zuidersma, ex-member of the "Groninger Ploeg", with whom he developed a warm friendship throughout the years.

Halbe’s work can somewhat be defined as expressionistic, with a tendency to fauvism and is especially recognized by a bright and daring choice of colours.

Biography

I was born in Norg (Drenthe) on august 4, 1946 and as a child I was already fascinated by colours. The works of the expressionists intrigued me deeply.

My first contact with arts of design, mainly existed of the kind of information I could find in books about this art form.

In the year 2000, I have joined the project 'Kiezen voor Kunst' (Chose for Art), a yearly event, organized by the Belgium Ministry of Art. One of my works was nominated.

At the invitation of the art magazine 'Atelier', I have joined the national gallery route in March 2003, which has been very succesfull for me. Furthermore, I attend a few art markets every year, of which the art market in Bergen (Noord-Holland) is the most important one for me. This art market is always on a Friday night and for professional artists only. You will find more information under 'Exposities' (Dutch language).

The real confrontation happened when I met Arie Zuidersma. As an ex-member of the “Groninger Ploeg”, Zuidersma is still considered the last “Ploeger”. With him, a warm friendship has developed and this has resulted in my love for the Groninger landscape.

The instructions and advices of Zuidersma have been of great support for my development as an artist. I consider the landscape as one of the most important issues of my work and despite my choice of colours, it is always recognizable as such.

Another important issue in my work is the woman. These paintings have mostly been obtained from my dream world, but a book or a poem might also be a source of inspiration. Here, I use somewhat softer colour gradation, which expresses my sensitiveness towards the woman.

In the summer I can be found in the South of France for a long period, mostly with a few likeminded people. Often, an exhibition of the work made, is organized.
In the Netherlands, my work is exhibited on a regularly bases. Individually, or together with others.

I surely hope that you will enjoy my website. I am looking forward to your reactions.
